Development of 26Cr1Mo Ultra-Corrosion-Resistant Ferritic Stainless Steel for Offshore PV Support Structures
To address the industrial challenges of insufficient corrosion resistance of galvanized steel and the high cost of nickel-containing stainless steel under high-salinity corrosive conditions for offshore photovoltaic brackets, a nickel-free ferritic stainless steel, 26Cr1Mo, with ultra-low carbon and nitrogen and high chromium and molybdenum contents, is developed in this work. Cr and Mo are adopted as primary corrosion-resistant alloying elements with a small amount of Cu added to enhance the stability of passive film. The composite addition of Ti and Nb stabilizes carbon and nitrogen atoms in the steel, inhibits the formation of chromium-depleted zones along grain boundaries and reduces the intergranular corrosion susceptibility. An integrated manufacturing route including BOF, VOD, LF, temperature-controlled hot rolling and continuous annealing is applied to prevent the precipitation of brittle phases such as σ phase, Laves phase and α' phase. Heat treatment tests identify the optimal annealing schedule: water cooling after holding at 980 ℃–1 000 ℃ for 8 min. The mechanical properties meet design targets: tensile strength ≥550 MPa, yield strength ≥350 MPa and elongation ≥25%. Corrosion tests reveal that the intergranular corrosion rate of 26Cr1Mo is only 0.12 mm/a, its critical pitting temperature in simulated seawater reaches 72.4 ℃, and no cracks are observed after a 120 h stress corrosion test. Free of precious metal nickel, this steel achieves superior seawater corrosion resistance with controlled production cost. It possesses prominent engineering application value for promoting the large-scale development of offshore photovoltaic industry and achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
