Identifying Spatiotemporal Co-competitive Patterns of Themed and Non-themed Urban Attractions
Urban themes and attraction types are key factors influencing tourist travel behavior and the structural layout of urban tourism. Clarifying the co-competitive relationships between themed and non-themed attractions helps reveal the organizational characteristics of urban tourism space and facilitates the optimization of attraction layout and visitor flow patterns. Based on the definition of co-competitive relationships and the classification of spatiotemporal coopetition patterns among urban attractions, this study proposes a method to identify such patterns between themed and non-themed attractions. Taking Chengdu, Dalian, and Shenyang as case studies, the results show that competitive relationships dominate across the three cities, with cooperation being secondary and monopoly characteristics not significant. Each city presents distinct spatiotemporal coopetition patterns, namely “theme-driven” “temporal division” and “linear linkage” types. The findings provide theoretical support and practical guidance for the optimized allocation, differentiated development, and refined management of urban themed tourism resources.
