To address the increasingly high requirements of power systems for reactive power and voltage support capability as well as system stability
this study proposes an advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage(CAES) power generation system based on a dual-excited synchronous unit. Meanwhile
the phase modulation mode is integrated to improve equipment utilization efficiency and power grid support performance. In addition
the proportional-integral (PI) speed control and an improved incomplete differentiation algorithm are adopted to optimize the speed regulation capability and dynamic performance. Correspondingly
a speed-power tracking excitation control strategy is designed
and a mathematical model of this novel CAES system is constructed. Furthermore
a simulation model is built based on MATLAB/Simulink for comparative analysis. The simulation results indicate that
compared with the traditional compressed air energy storage system
the proposed novel compressed air energy storage system exhibits significant improvements in the regulation capability of terminal voltage and speed
as well as transient stability during the power generation mode
phase modulation mode
and the switching process between these two modes. Therefore
the dynamic performance and stability of the power system can be effectively enhanced.
