Investigation on the hazards and the demands of preventing and controlling major epidemic diseases among poultry farmers in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province
The situation and demands of preventing and controlling common diseases in poultry farms in Jingzhou City
Hubei Province were investigated to optimize the local strategies for the prevention and control of poultry diseases and develop precise schemes of technical service.
Methods
2
A questionnaire survey covering the basic information of practitioners and farms
the perception of farmers on the situation of epidemic diseases on their farms
their demands and suggestions for the prevention and control of diseases were conducted on 172 poultry farms (households) within the scope of Jingzhou City.Data were statistically analyzed with software including Wenjuanxing and Excel.
Results
2
The top 3 in viral diseases in terms of comprehensive weight were highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5/H7) (5.31)
infectious bronchitis (4.68)
and low pathogenic avian influenza (H9) (4.3).The ranking for waterfowl farms was highly pathogenic avian influenza (5.07)
duck viral hepatitis (4.67)
and low pathogenic avian influenza (H9) (4.33). The top 3 in bacterial diseases in terms of comprehensive weight were mycoplasmosis (5.13)
colibacillosis (4.74)
and salmonellosis (4.33).The top 3 in parasitic diseases in terms of comprehensive weight were coccidiosis (5.28)
mite infestation (4.69)
and nematodiasis (4.34).
Conclusions
2
Farmers had the strongest demand for technical training
with a high level of concern for highly pathogenic avian influenza and economically important diseases. The targeted schemes of technical training should be subsequently strengthened to improve the comprehensive capabilities of farmers to prevent and control poultry diseases.
